—Porcupunk to Bobbie Blobby, "The Other Side" |
"The Other Side" is the twenty-first episode of the first season of Power Players. It first premiered on January 31, 2020 on the official Cartoon Network website and it later premiered on February 23, 2020, on TV on Cartoon Network.
Synopsis[]
Axel must 'save' Bobbie Blobby after she defects to Madcap's team, tempted by Porcupunk and his assertion that she belongs with the bad toys.
Plot[]
The episode opens in Madcap's lair where the villain expresses his frustrations to his henchmen for being constantly defeated by Action Axel every time he tries to steal his Power Bandz. What he wants is a new recruit to deal with their arch-enemy and he sends Porcupunk to search for the new toy to join his army.
At Axel's room, Bobbie Blobby had insensitively annoyed her friends because of her bluntness and lack of sympathy: first, she attempted to prank Sarge Charge by appearing in front of him while he's doing his routine surveillance feed; then, she spoiled the plot of the book Bearbarian is reading about his favorite folk hero and role model Gotharr; and last, she harshly criticizes Action Axel's new signature move after he accidentally crashed into his chair. The Power Players are all visibly annoyed with Bobbie's bluntness and Galileo complaints that her way of saying comes off as mean to them, but Bobbie grumpily denies her attitude and leaves the room, calling her friends "softies".
While sitting outside to think about her insensitivity, Porcupunk arrives and sees Bobbie all alone. Bobbie pins Porcupunk to the balcony rails and threatens him to make him into a clay sandwich if he doesn't run back home, causing one of Porcupunk's quills to fall off and get stuck on one of the rails. Porcupunk assures her that he doesn't come for any harm and he persuades Bobbie into joining Madcap's side because of how different she is when she's with her Power Players teammates. He manipulates her into thinking her friends would not be going to miss her if she leaves. Bobbie accepts Porcupunk's offer after she overhears her friends all laughing in amusement, assuming that they’re all having fun without her around.
While Bobbie and Porcupunk both head to Madcap's lair, the remaining Power Players are voting for what movie they're going to watch later today. Masko, Galileo, and Slobot all vote for Masko's pick while Axel, Sarge, and Bearbarian all vote for Sarge's pick. Axel, knowing that it's a tie, wonders where Bobbie is since she never misses her chance of their deciding vote, but then realizes that she's missing in the room.
Meanwhile, Porcupunk brought Bobbie to Madcap's lair and presented her to the villain. He greets Bobbie in a friendly way, but she bluntly tells him that they already met many times and it's usually none good. Madcap, hoping to persuade Bobbie to join his side, gives her a tour of the lair, but Bobbie harshly comments on his “throne room”. Madcap tells Bobbie that he likes the way she speaks in a blunt manner and that in his lair, she can be herself with no one to tell her otherwise. This causes Bobbie to smile, indicating that she is willingly joining the villain side in spite of her friendship with the Power Players.
Back in Axel's room, the Power Players are all searching for Bobbie around the house, but they can't find her. Masko notices that the bedroom window is open, which causes everyone to look outside. Axel walks to the back porch to investigate when he notices Porcupunk's quill from earlier and realizes that Bobbie must have been kidnapped by Porcupunk. None of the toys believe that Bobbie is being kidnapped and takes it as a prank, but Axel transforms into Action Axel and runs off to the warehouse to rescue her from Madcap and his henchmen.
At the warehouse, Bobbie is hanging out with the bad-toys as if she's satisfied with her decision to betray the Power Players. When Princess SugarSalt throws a tantrum after drinking tea which she despises and starts destroying her tea set, Bobbie and Madcap both help her destroy the tea set for fun too. After Bobbie pretends to be a gorilla and roars alongside Orangutank, the toys get onto a rollerblade and roll down a toy car track like a makeshift roller coaster. And when the toys reach the end of the track, Dynamo snaps a picture of his companions and Bobbie admits to the toys that she's having so much fun.
Meanwhile, Action Axel gets into the ventilation of the warehouse to rescue Bobbie. But while he sneaks into the ventilation, he accidentally triggers a trap and ends up getting himself locked up in a cage. The cage descends down into the warehouse where the villains are.
The villains are currently holding a meeting to figure out what they should do for fun next, and Bobbie is a part of the meeting. Princess SugarSalt suggests they should destroy a statue in the park and Madcap agrees with her. Bobbie is surprised by how serious the villains are for destroying things for fun and realizes that her time spent with the villains has gone a bit too far. But before Madcap starts questioning Bobbie's sudden change of demeanor, an alarm goes off and he knows who is intruding in his warehouse. The cage that traps Action Axel appears in front of the villains, to Bobbie's surprise. Using his Power Sword, Action Axel cuts the cage door open and gets onto the truck to rescue Bobbie. But Action Axel notices that Bobbie is participating in a villain's meeting and Porcupunk reveals to him that she has come to the lair by choice and she's on the villain's side. Bobbie tries to tell Action Axel that it's not what it looks like, but Princess SugarSalt sprinkles down three photographs of Bobbie spending time with the villains in front of Action Axel. Looking at the photographs, Action Axel believes that Bobbie has indeed become a traitor to the team. But before Bobbie could again try to give an explanation to Action Axel, Madcap sends Orangutank to attack her leader. After Action Axel successfully beat Orangutank, he tells Bobbie that he won’t give up on her for being a traitor and she belongs to the Power Players. Bobbie notices that none of the villains are helping Orangutank get back to his feet and questions about their lack of empathy to him, but Porcupunk tells her who needs friends before he rolls down to start fighting with Action Axel, revealing to her that despite being villains and work together, they never actually see each other as friends.
This causes Bobbie to realize how toxic the villains’ influence is to her and starts rethinking about her actions earlier. When Madcap captures Action Axel, he tells him that he brought Bobbie to his lair to lure him into his trap. And since Bobbie is on the villain's side, he wants to prove her allegiance by asking her to demolish Action Axel herself. Bobbie is surprised at Madcap's demand and starts walking to Action Axel, seemingly ready to demolish her previous leader. But Bobbie winks at Action Axel, revealing that it's just a trick, and she forms a club out of her clay cannon. She hits the villains away with her clay club and reveals to them that she isn’t on the villain's side anymore for she is back on being part of the Power Players. After the two Power Players beat the villains which lead to the toys all trapped into a pile of clay, Bobbie and Action Axel are ready to go back home. Bobbie is worried that the rest of her friends are still mad at her for earlier, but Action Axel receives a message from the toys at home. Action Axel shows Bobbie the message that the Power Players all indeed miss her and they’re worried about her.
Back in Axel's room, Bobbie apologizes to her friends for her harshness and that she's only doing it to avoid showing off her soft side to them. The Power Players all forgive her, and Axel tells Bobbie that despite her harshness being her thing, that doesn’t mean they’re still her real friends. Sarge also apologizes to Axel for not joining him to rescue Bobbie from the villains since he and his friends all thought it was a joke. Masko then suggests to his friends that they should do a group hug, but Bobbie refuses and tells him that she doesn't do hugs. However, the Power Players all decide to hug anyway since to them, Bobbie never changes and she lets out a smile while her real friends are all hugging her.

Trivia[]
- In the French version, the episode is called "Dans l'autre camp", meaning "In the other camp".
- Before the episode's release, Jeremy Zag posted a higher-quality version of a photograph of Madcap and Bobbie on his Instagram on June 4, 2019.[7]
- This episode takes place after the events of "Joyride", "Access Denied", and "Bear-Knuckle Brawl" because of the flashbacks of those three aforementioned episodes are seen at the beginning of this episode.
- In the US, because the episodes are released out of chronological order, "Bear-Knuckle Brawl" happened to air immediately after this episode.
- The episode might have taken place before "Iced Out" since Ice Crusher is the only villain other than Dr. Nautilus who didn't appear at Madcap's lair.
- Since Bobbie Blobby is the only member of the Power Players to not have the team logo on either herself or on her battle suit, it makes sense why Madcap wants her to switch to his side.
- This episode revealed that Princess SugarSalt hates tea.
- This episode reveals that none of the villains see each other as friends despite living and working together to steal the Power Bandz and they don't care about each other's wellbeing.
- While picking out which movie the Power Players should watch later, Masko's pick is Tap Me Out 2. The Tappening. On the VHS cover, it features a character that looks very similar to Masko, which implies that the toyline Masko originates from is based on the movie.
- The design of Masko on the VHS cover is based on the toy Masko's early character design since he is depicted with a lot more tattoos on his body and has a different Power Players insignia on his belt.
- In this episode, Bearbarian is revealed to have admiration to a folk hero named Gotharr the Brave.
Errors[]
- Princess SugarSalt's colors during her tea party are inconsistent. When she is first seen, she's in her "sugary" colors, but the next shot shows her in her "salty" colors despite she isn't in a bad mood yet. And when she throws a tantrum, she's back in her "sugary" colors despite she's supposed to be in her "salty" colors. Princess SugarSalt's colors aren't even seen switching on-screen at all during the entire tea party scene.
