“ | I'm a Sergeant toy. It’s what I was made to do. Now pick up the pace! | ” |
—Sarge Charge, "All Trick No Treat" |
Sarge Charge is the one of the main protagonists of Power Players. He is a sergeant action figure who serves as the second-in-command of the Power Players team.
Appearance[]
Sarge is an action figure with blue eyes with a large scar over his right eye, blond painted-on "hair" and a muscular build. He is styled similar to a military sergeant with a brown shirt, green pants with black suspenders, dark green fingerless gloves, and dark grayish-green boots with black laces. On his right arm appears to be a white cloth to resembles a bandage wrap. He also wears a black belt with the Power Players team insignia.
Personality[]
A military commando at heart, Sarge is a square-jawed "tough guy" toy of the team who is brave, rigid, stiff, and unmovable — both physically and personally.[1] Sarge is very confident who has a strict moral code and uses military terms, such as calling his friends either "soldiers" or "troops". With a very strong sense of loyalty and follows the "never leave a soldier behind" code, Sarge is very protective of his friends from Madcap and his army whenever they invade the house, so because of it, he is responsible for handling the Toy Store's security system and sets up traps in the backyard garden to prevent anyone from Madcap's army from breaking into the house. He serves as the strategic member of the Power Players, often coming up with plans so they could beat a villain much faster and easier, though he would use his blasters as the last resort if his plan doesn't work well as he thought. Though Sarge often prefers to work alone during his solo missions, he would always count on his friends to help him in need.
At times though, Sarge can be very impatient and has a bad habit of jumping into conclusions without knowing the full facts. The moment after Sarge is brought back to life and notices that Madcap has escaped from the Toy Box by Axel in "Unboxing Part 1", he immediately thought Axel is a "big bad" without getting to know him first and he leads his team into attacking him before Axel can clear up the misunderstanding to them.
Sarge is also worried about being judged for something he likes that doesn't fit his role as a "tough soldier", such as ballet and getting scared. Throughout "On Your Toes", he even went as far as to create a fake Porcupunk sighting in the backyard so he could get all his teammates out of Axel's room so he could be left alone to learn how to ballet in secret. Whenever he gets scared in front of his teammates, he would try to deny that he's not afraid since he wants to show them that he's fearless of everything and has a tough side.
Abilities[]
As the original leader of the Power Players before Axel comes along, Sarge is clever and quick-thinking. He also has high stamina, speed, endurance, and agility, running long distances without stopping which allows him to react to and evade light-based attacks, as well as jump and leap several times his height and length. Since Sarge is an action figure, his head is removable and his arm can fall off, though Sarge's amputated limb can move on its own when it's not connected to his joints.
Sarge has a remarkable talent with wielding various blasters and he owns various military-themed items, including a parachute, a binocular, a walkie-talkie, and a camouflage bandanna. And in other episodes, he can fight exceptionally well with other weapons besides his blaster and is good at dual-wielding.
Relationships[]
Axel Mulligan[]
Sarge first sees Axel in "Unboxing Part 1" after he was accidentally brought back to life by him. However, because he wasn't conscious to see Axel had accidentally let Madcap escape from the Toy Box, he jumps into conclusions that Axel is a "brat kid" who deliberately set Madcap free with the use of the Power Bandz he "stole" and made a deal with him. Because of it, he leads his team into attacking Axel while he is chasing after Madcap on the second floor of the house in the hope that he could "surrender" to them. When the Power Players all comfort Axel in his room, Sarge initially didn't believe him when he tries to tell them the truth and asks him why he set Madcap free. After Axel clears up the misunderstanding in his room when he transformed back into a living action figure by telling them that he's the nephew of Andrew and what he did was completely an accident, Sarge is the first to welcome him into the team as a way for him to forgive the team for attacking him by mistake.
Out of the other Power Players, Sarge comes to respect Axel the most when he becomes the new leader of the team and views him as his commanding officer, often calling him "soldier" or "kid" instead of his real name. He even leads his teammates into baking a chocolate cake a week before Axel's birthday for him in "Power Chef". Because of their friendship, when Princess SugarSalt lied to the team that Axel has abandoned them and starts hanging out with Cleo in "Friends War", Sarge, unaware that Princess SugarSalt has placed a spell on the two kids, felt hurt by Axel's supposed betrayal. Sarge would always follow Axel's orders and requests he's been asked to do by his leader, though sometimes Sarge would become too stubborn who wants to follow exactly what Axel said, even if Axel's plan doesn't work out well for the team and Sarge would refuse to come up with another solution that's not part of what Axel's orders.
Bearbarian[]
Sarge and Bearbarian seem to get along as friends since they both considered themselves the "tough" members of the team. Whenever there aren't any missions, they would hang out together in Axel's room, such as playing chess. In "All Trick No Treat", when they're the only members of the Power Players to venture down to Andrew's workshop during Halloween night, Sarge shows concern about Bearbarian who's afraid of the dark and suggests they should wait for Axel upstairs. Instead, they get spooked by the decorations on their way out and Axel in his vampire costume who asked them to come down to the workshop so he could scare them that they both huddle in fear.
Bobbie Blobby[]
Sarge and Bobbie get along well as friends. In "That Slobot is No Bot of Mine", they're the only members of the Power Players, along with Galileo, who didn't participate in the competition the team held to test their strength, skill, and speed. Because for them, they both agreed that they didn't need to prove anything about their skills within the team.
In "Out Of My Head", their friendship is being put to a test after Luka mistakenly places their heads in the wrong body after he accidentally drop them during his playtime. But because of Porcupunk's sudden arrival to "celebrate" his six-month anniversary of working for Madcap, the two toys don't have enough time to ask Action Axel to switch their heads back right away and they were forced to handle their new body to help their leader fight Porcupunk first before the villain destroy the house. However, Sarge, who's in Bobbie's body, is having trouble figuring out how to use her mecha-suit to fire out the clay from its clay cannon and he is unable to get used to being in Bobbie's short body which he rants about being in a "kindergartener" body. It wasn't until Action Axel tells them that they must make the most of what they have that Sarge understands that he should stop worrying about the mecha-suit he didn't know how to control and concentrate on firing from the clay cannon instead.
Galileo[]
Sarge seems to at least get along with Galileo despite the latter's pride and narcissistic personality. In "Porcupunk Rock", he is worried about Galileo when the latter wants to record an introductory video for his online blog since the Power Players must keep their identity as living toys a secret to the world, but he's been assured by Galileo that the viewers would think Galileo talking to the camera is a camera trick and they won't believe that he is a living toy for real.
Like the rest of the Power Players, Sarge can't stand Galileo's love for pranks and he never find them amusing in both "Boo!" and "Joke's On You, Bro!", and he usually wants to get him back. He is also irritated of Galileo had stolen his parachute one time to take some selfies while parachuting down from the roof of the house, as mentioned in "The Thing in the Wall".
Masko[]
Sarge sees Masko as a friend whom he would participate in his friendly wrestling matches at his ring which Sarge rarely wins.
In "Saving Private Masko", Sarge overhears Masko wondering out loud how he should be taught to be "un-fun" and should focus more on responsibility instead of wrestling that Sarge is willing to teach his friend the virtue of discipline. However, Sarge's teaching for Masko unintentionally caused the latter to take his military training very seriously and he became too focused on taking down Madcap instead of playing with his teammates like he normally did, which Sarge admits after Masko drives off with Bearbarian's Monster Jeep that what he did normally didn't happen when he train a recruit. After Action Axel rescues Masko from Madcap's lair, Sarge apologizes to him for making him lose his own identity with his training and compliments that he's still doing him proud.
Despite their friendship, in "The Dynamo Dynamic", Sarge and Masko both had an argument over who has the most "ultimate weapon": Masko's stretchable body or Sarge's new blaster that Slobot build for him. When Dynamo arrives to kidnap Slobot, Sarge and Masko are both too busy arguing to focus on protecting their friend which gets in their way to help Action Axel stop Dynamo. During the fight in the living room, they decided to put aside their difference and follow Action Axel's advice to use both their ultimate weapons to take down Dynamo easier. After Dynamo's defeat, Sarge and Masko are about to reconcile over their disagreement over who's the "ultimate weapon", but they ended up start arguing again over whose weapon is more powerful during their fight with Dynamo.
Slobot[]
Sarge isn't close to Slobot, but he sees him as a friend despite Slobot's lack of pace. In "The Dynamo Dynamic", Sarge really likes the new blaster Slobot invented for him that he compliments him for "outdone himself" and makes the blaster feels like an ultimate weapon. When Dynamo arrives to kidnap Slobot under Madcap's order, Sarge is protective of him, saying to the villain that "no one takes [their] Slobot". He even cheers for Slobot when the latter is about to win first place in the race the Power Players held to test their skills in "That Slobot is No Bot of Mine" after Masko unintentionally launches him into the air and he happened to land right near the finish line, though Slobot ends up losing when Bearbarian, Action Axel, and Masko all reach first.
But despite being friends, Sarge often lacks any patience for Slobot speaking in a slow manner and he tends to jump into conclusion before he could let him finish talking. For instance, in "Emergency", Sarge mistakenly thought Axel is held prisoner by Madcap when Slobot tries to tell him something about Axel needing his help and he doesn't let him finish until Slobot reveals to him that the real "emergency" is that Axel is actually running out of toothpaste to brush his teeth right after he gathered up his weapons and teammates, much to Sarge's chagrins.
Uncle Andrew[]
While it's unknown what Sarge's relationship with Andrew is, he seems to like his creator since he's the one who uses Minergy to make him come to life.
Zoe[]
When he first heard Zoe's voice in "Unboxing Part 2", Sarge, who mistook Axel as a "big bad" at the time, believed that she is Axel's "human backup" that helps Axel with his deal with Madcap. But after Zoe lets herself into the secret when she sees the Power Players as living toys, Sarge now sees her as a friend and supports her as the team's ally, as seen in "Side Kicked".
Luka[]
Like the rest of the Power Players, Sarge is afraid of Luka because of how roughly he likes to play with them and he would usually try to hide from him whenever Luka visits Axel's house. In "Out Of My Head", Sarge is being played with by Luka behind Axel's back and his head had fallen off along with Bobbie's after Luka drops them by accident. And during Luka's panic, the boy mistakenly places the heads of Bobbie and Sarge in the wrong body before he leaves the room to get out of the house to avoid getting punished by Axel.
Madcap and his army[]
Sarge and the rest of his teammates must have known Madcap for a very long time before the events of the series since he mentioned that he hates him upon realizing that Madcap escaped from the Toy Box after he was brought to life in "Unboxing Part 1". Because Madcap escapes from the house with the Minergy battery he stole, Sarge and the rest of the team are working together to defeat him and his army of evil toys once and for all before they take over the world.
But despite Madcap and his army are all enemies to him and the rest of the Power Players, in "All Trick No Treat", he's willing to put aside their differences so they could temporarily work together to rescue their respective leaders when both Madcap and Action Axel are mistakenly got taken away by a trick-or-treater on Halloween. Although, Sarge and Bearbarian both didn't get along with Porcupunk and Orangutank during their rescue mission and they nearly got caught by a nearby civilian.

Trivia[]
- Sarge's name has been changed in several international dubs:
- In the Czech version, he is called "Serža Vpřed" ("Sergeant Forward").
- In the French version, he is called "Sergent Charge".
- In the Hungarian version, he is called "Sarge őrmester" ("Sergeant Sarge").
- In the Polish version, he is called "Sierżant Szarża".
- In concept arts, Sarge was a replacement of the unnamed "female" military action figure during the early production of the series. And before his design was finalized, Sarge was originally going to have a light-green shirt instead of brown and his "hairstyle" was originally a mohawk. He would often be depicted with his light-green shirt in his model sheets.
- "That Slobot is No Bot of Mine" is the only episode in which Sarge is seen with a light-green shirt instead of brown.
- As seen in "Unboxing Part 1", Sarge is the second Power Players member to be reawakened by Axel.
- While he's being interview in his titular webisode, Sarge mentioned that he once saved a dino toy from two human kids prior to the events of the series.
- In "Gathering Dark", it's revealed that Sarge is afraid of clowns and finds them creepy.
- In "Access Denied", it's revealed Sarge owns a bandanna that he considers his "secret weapon".
- It's hinted in "Porcupunk Rock", that Sarge knows sign language.
- According to Sarge in "Green with Envy", he always has a soft spot for theaters.
- In the webisode "A Great Hideout", he doesn't seem to understand the concept of playing hide-and-seek and he thought he's supposed to ask Axel where he should hide after Axel finishes counting down.
- Whenever Sarge sings, his songs would be in a tune of "I Don't Know What I've Been Told", which is a call-and-response work song that's used during the military.
- In "Sarge in Charge", it's shown that Sarge owns another pairs of the same boots he wears.
