“ | Today's game goes to you, Power Pests. But tomorrow... is mine! | ” |
—Madcap, "Unboxing Part 2" |
Madcap (formerly known as Might Master)[2] is the main antagonist of Power Players. He is an action figure who wants Axel Mulligan's Power Bandz for himself in order to obtain absolute power and force every human in the world to "play" with his kind of games. By using the Minergy battery he stole from Andrew's lab, he creates and leads his army of toys to try to take down the Power Players.
Appearance[]
Madcap is a 52-centimeter tall[1] black action figure with green details. He has two large horns on both sides of his head and four long black tentacles on the back. He also has red eyes with diamond-shaped irises.
Personality[]
Long before he's known as Madcap, he was originally a toy by the name of Might Master, a classic superhero action figure. He was the first test subject for Andrew who took him into his lab to experiment with Minergy, special organic compound energy that could bring toys to life, which animated him and he became the first known smart-toy to exist. But as he discovered what it meant to be played with during his first time as a smart-toy, he took offense and became very delusional about it. He repainted his armor in the dark hues of his toy soul, vowed to "play" with humans as they had played with him, and rechristened himself as Madcap.[2]
After Madcap starts his path to villainy, he became ruthless, cold, cunning, and determined. His goal is to claim the Axel's Power Bandz to gain its power necessary to achieve his goal, not caring if he causes any humans harm in the process. According to Madcap, he wants both the Minergy battery and Power Bandz to bring every toy in the world to life at once and force the humans to play with his "games". He is also very stubborn as he refuses to listen to Axel about how he is using his powers for evil purposes, showing that he isn't remorseful about all the damage and chaos he is caused which in his eyes, he sees them as his own way of "fun" and whenever he didn't feel like stealing the Power Bandz, he would often terrorize the city by causing mayhem in his path and assault innocent civilians, as seen in "To Tame the Perilous Skies!". At times, Madcap isn't even afraid to reveal himself as a living toy in front of other civilians because of his vengeance against them.
Because of his desire to take over the world, Madcap sets up his own army of evil toys that he brainwashed into joining his side by the use of the Minergy battery. He sees the toys in his army as his henchmen instead of his friends and expects them to follow his many demands and schemes to take down the Power Players, while they must treat him as if he's their "king". He is a skilled liar and manipulator, persuading his henchmen that he could help achieve their individual goal and/or their own freedom if they steal the Power Bandz from Axel, when in reality, he does it because he wants them to retrieve the Bandz for him for his own goal. However, if things aren't going his way, Madcap easily loses his patience, threatening harm to the Power Players and even to his minions.
Abilities[]
As a smart-toy, Madcap can use his tentacle joints to suck up Minergy from the Minergy battery or the Power Bandz so he can gain powers. With the power of the Minergy, he can either blast it at his enemies or make a toy come to life to force them into joining his side. According to Madcap, as long as he has enough Minergy from the Minergy battery, he won't have his powers be wasted during battles.
Relationships[]
Andrew[]
When Uncle Andrew tried his first experiment on Minergy, he used Madcap (then Might Master) as his test subject. However after Madcap starts his path to villainy and became very delusional, Andrew was forced to put him in a dormant state in the Toy Box in order to avoid having him cause any more troubles. Now Madcap is very resentful of Andrew and wants to get his revenge on him by taking over the world with his army of toys and force every human to play with his kind of "games".
Axel Mulligan[]
When Axel moved in with Andrew while his parents are away on a diplomatic mission in "Unboxing Part 1", he wasn't aware of the existence of smart-toys since Uncle Andrew never tell him about it. This lead to Madcap easily manipulated him into opening the Toy Box where he trapped inside and he sucks the Minergy from Axel's Power Bandz. Now that Axel joins the Power Players team in order to stop him, Madcap wants nothing more than to defeat him, take his Power Bandz, and make him suffer once he wins.
When Action Axel and Madcap are both accidentally taken away by a trick-or-treater girl in "All Trick No Treat", they made a friendly truce to stop fighting each other and eat the candies from the girl's Halloween bucket until their respective teammates come to rescue them.
Power Players[]
Overall, Madcap is the sworn enemy to the entire Power Players team even before Axel joins them in "Unboxing Part 2". When Axel becomes a member, Madcap wants to do whatever it takes to take down the entire team in order for him to get his hands on the Power Bandz to gain its powers.
When Bobbie Blobby felt she doesn't belong to the Power Players because of her harsh demeanor in "The Other Side", Madcap persuades her to join the villain side since she enjoys her time at his lair. However, after Bobbie defects back to the Power Players when she realized the army's destructive behavior, he is anger by how she "quit on" him before he fights her and Action Axel.
But despite being enemies, Madcap is willing to put aside their differences so he could ask for their help. When Porcupunk became overpowered after he got upgraded by Madcap and puts the other villains under his control by his music, Madcap went to see the Power Players help him stop Porcupunk before his loud rock music could literally bring the city down. After they defeat the upgraded Porcupunk at the end of the episode, Madcap returns back to being an enemy to the Power Players and immediately demands them to get out of his lair since he still sees himself as a bad person while the Power Players are all good.
Porcupunk[]
Porcupunk becomes Madcap's minions after he charges him with the Minergy battery in "Unboxing Part 2" to help him fight against the Power Players. He even escapes with him and Orangutank out of the house and the three found the abandoned warehouse that they use as their evil lair. However, despite Porcupunk has a strong loyalty to his leader, Madcap doesn't seem to like Porcupunk all that much and he seems to be the unfavorite of the army. Madcap would sometimes attack him whenever Porcupunk didn't follow his demands and/or if Porcupunk questions Madcap and his schemes, including recruiting new members to Madcap's army, often threatening him if he doesn't comply.
Orangutank[]
Orangutank becomes Madcap's minions after he charges him with the Minergy battery in "Unboxing Part 2" to help him fight against the Power Players. He even escapes with him and Porcupunk out of the house and the three found the abandoned warehouse that they use as their evil lair. While the relationship between Orangutank and Madcap is currently unclear, Madcap expects Orangutank to follow his many orders to take down the Power Players and he can get angry at him when he doesn't fulfill his task.
Dynamo[]
In "Bowling for Ballers", Madcap brought Dynamo to life and makes him become part of his army. Upon receiving news from Porcupunk that Axel, Bearbarian, and Masko are all at the bowling alley with Zoe, Madcap brings Dynamo along with him and Porcupunk to steal the Power Bandz after Madcap became impressed with Dynamo's magnetic powers, which lead to Porcupunk's jealousy.
Since then, Madcap would often send Dynamo to the Toy Store to attack the Power Players and steal the Power Bandz for him. For instance, in "The Dynamo Dynamic", Madcap sends him to Axel's room to kidnap Slobot so he could create a very strong weapon against the Power Players. And in "Gathering Dark", Madcap has caught wind of Bearbarian's newly-upgraded Monster Jeep so he sends Dynamo over there to steal the Monster Jeep for him. Sometimes, Madcap would bring Dynamo along to help him sabotage Axel for fun, such as when Axel participates in a soapbox derby race in "The Best Team".
Princess SugarSalt[]
At some point before "Swing Set Jet Set", Madcap finds Princess Sugar Salt and forces her into his army. He later found a toy jetpack in his lair and asks her to trade the jetpack to Galileo for Bearbarian's World Breaker. But even though they both share a tyrannical personality and a love for destruction, the two toys didn't actually get along because of their differences, and Madcap is frequently annoyed by her uncontrollable mood-swings and bratty behavior. Despite Madcap is her superior and leader, Princess SugarSalt views him as a "commoner" and usually demands him to give her everything she wants while expecting him to treat her like royalty because of her self-proclaimed "princess" title. But while they both tend to argue over Madcap's leadership of the army, they would always put aside their differences to take down the Power Players because of their shared hatred for them.
Pyrant[]
At some point before "Side Kicked", Madcap found Pyrant and brought him to life along with the latter's Pyramid of Prediction army. He sends Pyrant and his army of mind-control drones to invade Axel's room so he could capture the kid and hand him over to Madcap. However, the relationship between Pyrant and Madcap is currently unclear because of Pyrant's only appearance in "Side Kicked" and Madcap gave him a task to capture Axel, in exchange for Pyrant and his army's freedom.
Dr. Nautilus[]
At some point before "Bobbie Not Blobby", Madcap found Dr. Nautilus and brought him to life with Minergy. Unlike the rest of the members of the army, Madcap gave Dr. Nautilus a "lovely home" in the sewers of the city. But despite Madcap is his leader and he often gives him Minergy for his many experiments as revealed in "From Below", he is irritated by Dr. Nautilus supposedly focus on his experiments instead of helping him take down the Power Players and steal Axel's Power Bandz, warning him that he must step up his games or else Dr. Nautilus will stay down in the sewers forever.
Ice Crusher[]
At some point before "Iced Out", Madcap found Ice Crusher and brought him to life with Minergy. He then sends Ice Crusher to the Toy Store to freeze the backyard of the house. However, Madcap is often annoyed by Ice Crusher's lack of intelligence and love for hockey over helping him with his schemes against the Power Players. In "Freeze!", Madcap brought Ice Crusher along with him to the Toy Store and gives him a task to distract the Power Players long enough while Madcap could get inside Andrew's workshop to search for more toys to expand his army.
Joyride[]
In "Joyride", Madcap brought to the titular toy to life in the hope he could help him take down the Power Players. Joyride was initially refuse to be part of Madcap's side because he sees himself as an individual, but Madcap manipulates him by telling him the reason why he made him come to life so he won't be stuck sitting on Zoe's shelf forever, which makes Joyride wanting to honor his debt in return. When the Power Players came to rescue Joyride, Madcap persuades Joyride that his debt will pay off if Joyride could steal Action Axel's Power Bandz for him. But after the fight between Action Axel and Joyride when the former tells Joyride that Zoe does indeed love him and she never sees him as a useless piece of junk which Madcap did called him that, Joyride betrays Madcap and his army for their manipulation and he becomes friends with the Power Players instead.
Zoe[]
Although Madcap has never interacted with Zoe personally, he is aware she knows about the existence of living toys and his role as a villain during the war between his army and the Power Players.
